International Business Negotiation and Protocol – Ing. Pavel Kalina

12.10.2021, 4.11.2021, and 24.11.2021, the Department of International Business organized online lectures by Ing. Pavel Kalina on the topic of International Business Negotiation and Protocol.

The lectures were held in a very interactive spirit and focused on the main cultural differences that affect international business negotiations and the protocol in selected countries in which Mr. Kalina was working during his career. Students (according to the specific focus of individual courses) had the opportunity to find out how to properly address a business partner and how to organize a business or diplomatic meeting. Details like differences in dress codes, communication channels, gifts, and titles were included.

Ing. Pavel Kalina – originally a nuclear physicist, represented Škoda Plzeň and Škoda Energo in Iran and India. After joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, he mostly worked as a business council in Iraq, India, China, Russia, and Iran. He currently works at the same position at the Czech Embassy in Seoul, Korea.

It was a lecture for students of the English bachelor study programs Bachelor of International Business and International and Diplomatic Studies in the compulsory course 2IB101 International Business Negotiation and Protocol, a lecture in the course 2MO303 International Business Negotiation and Protocol, which is offered as optional for all students of Czech bachelor programs at the Prague University of Economics and Business and a lecture within the course 2OP531 Trade and Business in China, a compulsory course of the minor specialization Chinese Studies. The course is also offered as an elective for students of master’s programs at the Prague University of Economics and Business.
