Export Quotation and Risks while Exporting to Cuba by Mgr. Jiří Balík

On March 22nd, 2022, within the  course 2MO302 International Business Operations, the Department of International Business was pleased to host a workshop on “Export quotation and risk while exporting to Cuba” by Mgr. Jiří Balík, Business Development Manager at Simplex CZ.

Students first presented their research outcomes on documentation necessary for an export operation between Czech Republic and Cuba. Later during seminars, together with students, Mgr. Jiří Balík designed an example export quotation for certain goods. The goal was to consider risks, optimise costs and also match expectations of the client – a Cuban state company.

During his studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, Mgr. Jiří Balík joined a study programme abroad – in Spain. His professional career has focused on trade with Latin American countries. Currently he acts as a Business Development Manager at Simplex CZ, a company focusing on exporting to Cuba, a highly risky territory. Mgr. Jiří Balík also participates in a project focusing on opening branches in Caracas and Santo Domingo.

2MO302 International Business Operations is a practically oriented compulsory course for students of the Bachelor programme – International Business, guaranteed by doc. Ing. Alexej Sato, CSc. Students cover all topics relevant to an international contract for sale of goods (price, subject of sale, payment terms, delivery terms, transport mode, customs clearance, insurance etc.) and also discover the role of a trade company as a middleman in international business.
