Ing. Petr Král, Ph.D. in Czech Television Černé ovce: Restaurant servis comparison in Prague, Vienna and Munich

On Thursday, June 20th, Ing. Petr Král, Ph.D., the expert on international marketing, appeared on the programme ČT Černé ovce. This time the report focused on the comparison of food and service in restaurants in Vienna, Munich and Prague. The criteria for selecting the restaurant was location – on the main square opposite a major tourist attraction. The restaurants were compared based on price, speed of service and customer service.

For coffee, mineral water, small and large beers, soup, Wiener schnitzel and “knedlo-vepřo-zelo” (Roast pork with dumplings and sauerkraut), the crew paid 1703 CZK in Prague, waited 5 minutes and rated the service as very good. In Vienna, the staff paid less for a similar order, 1626 CZK, and waited 7.5 minutes for the food. Munich, on the other hand, was the most expensive, where the order cost 2032 CZK. The crew waited 9 minutes for the food.

“We can see that this is a group of cities, or more precisely of tourist centres, that have a life of their own and actually have nothing much to do with the price level of the rest of the country. It turns out that all three cities are already at a very similar price level today, or at least in tourist locations, where we didn’t really find any big difference. Vienna even turned out to be a little bit cheaper than Prague. I was expecting the lunch to cost more in Germany and Austria than in the Czech Republic, which turned out to not be true, because the price level is comparable,” concludes Ing. Petr Král, Ph.D.
