Chinese Beliefs and Business by Dr. Qi Hudečková
The Department of International Business was pleased to organize two expert lectures on Chinese Believes and Business. On Wednesday, November 16th, 2022, and Thursday, November 17th, 2022 Dr. Qi Hudečková held a guest speach in the courses 2IB101 International Business Negotiations and Protocol and 2OP531 Trade and Business in China .
Based on her 20 years of study and practitioner experience, the topic of this year’s lecture was Chinese prognostication based on Yin-yang and the theory of the five elements: the I Ching 易经 (hexagrams), Bazi 八字 (Eight Characters), and Feng Shui 风水.
Dr. Qi Hudečková, also known as 李奇玉博士, was awarded a degree in History and Philosophy of Science and spent part of her studies as a visiting scholar to the Needham Research Institute in Cambridge (2010-2011). Since 2013 she has been cooperating with the Faculty of International Relations, Prague University of Economics and Business within the courses 2SE533 The Chinese Economy , 2OP531 Trade and Business in China, 2OP308 Dealing with Chinese Business Counterparts and 2IB101 International Business Negotiation and Protocol. She is a researcher and practitioner in the field of Chinese prognostication, focusing on the use of traditional tool models to simplify and imitate the fate of mankind, trends of events and the human-environment relationships, and traditional agriculture.
The course 2IB101 – International Business Negotiation and Protocol introduces students to the principles of business negotiation, the existing socio-cultural differences in the international environment, and their impact on strategy and tactics in business dealings with foreign partners in each region. It is a compulsory course for the Bachelor of International Business study programme. Seminars are taught in English in culturally mixed teams of students who work together on a term project. The course is supervised by Ing. Jitka Volfová, Ph.D., who focuses on intercultural management and social taxonomy.
The course 2OP531 Trade and Business in China is a compulsory course of the minor specialization – Chinese Studies and is also offered as an elective course for all students of Master’s programs at the Prague University of Economics and Business. Seminars are taught in English in culturally mixed teams of students who work together on a term project. The course is supervised by Ing. Jitka Volfová, Ph.D., who lived in China for almost three years and wrote her Ph.D. thesis on the topic of Chinese Business Negotiation.
